Add event to my calendar

Sing About Lesbians, I’m Dying of Thirst is the debut solo show by Jazzee Rozier, a CIA Drawing and Painting senior. The exhibition features a series of works that demonstrates the modern-day black lesbian and what it means to exist as one in its entirety—including notions of gender norms, identity, politics and sexual exploration.

Sing About Lesbians, I’m Dying of Thirst will open from 6 to 7:30pm on Friday, August 30 at the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland (6705 Detroit Ave., Cleveland). It will remain on view through September 27 and is exhibited concurrently with Everywhere, All at Once, a group exhibition organized by fellow CIA Drawing and Painting senior James Schaffer.

Rozier’s artwork embraces the problematic views associated with black womanhood and utilizes that information to reclaim their identity. “If you think I have manly attributes, then let me perform manliness better than you can” is a phrase Rozier commonly uses to describe what inspires them to make and display these pieces.

Sing About Lesbians, I’m Dying of Thirst was created through CIA's Creativity Works program, which is made possible by the generous support of the Fenn Educational Fund and the G.R. Lincoln Family Foundation. Creativity Works is a self-initiated internship program with the goal of supporting a student's professional development. Participating students create proposals that align with their long-term professional goals.
