Pay-As-You-Go Life Drawing

Wednesdays, 6–9pm

Students drawing from a model during a life drawing session.

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, pay-as-you-go life drawing sessions allow you to develop or refine your life drawing skills. With a per-session limit of 25 attendees, these intimate life drawing sessions allow you to draw the nude figure at your own pace and receive individual critique from the moderator.

CIA provides the model and the moderator. Just bring your favorite drawing or painting supplies!

Wednesdays, 6 to 9pm

Spring 2024
January 31 through April 17

Summer 2024
May 22 through August 14 (no class on June 19)

Moderator Eddie Mitchell

Eddie Mitchell received his BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in painting and drawing in 1987. At CIA, he has facilitated the evening Life Drawing classes, co-taught & taught the Foundations in Art + Design Pre-College summer program and the Portfolio Preparation class since 2009. He has maintained a full-time studio for over 35 years. His work is represented in several galleries across the country. Eddie has been in over 200 art shows, created numerous commissioned pieces for public locations, and sold over 1,250 paintings.

His experience and passion for creating and teaching art have assisted numerous students to win recognition in various art shows. Eddie has also helped many students to prepare work for their art portfolios for college admission, in hopes to increase their chances of earning merit scholarships based on a high-quality portfolio.

How do I register for life drawing?

Preregistration is not available for these drop-in sessions of life drawing. To attend a session, simply arrive at the studio where the class takes place (Room 302) and payment is taken at the door. Cash and credit card are accepted.

Do classes ever sell out?

While each life drawing session is limited to 25 participants, sell-outs are extremely rare. Doors will open at 5:30pm and will close promptly at 6pm or when we've reached maximum capacity.

What is life drawing?

Life drawing gives participants the opportunity to draw the human figure from a nude model. Students under 18 years of age may participate with permission from a legal guardian.

Is parking available for life drawing participants?

Life drawing participants are free to park in Lot 73, located off of E. 117th Street.

Will supplies be provided?

There will be some limited drawing supplies available (charcoal, newsprint paper) for participants; please ask at check-in if you need materials.
