Beginning Painting

In this introductory painting course, students will learn the fundamental techniques and processes of painting with acrylic paint. Class projects will target basic painting principles and guide students to develop a better understanding of tools and materials, acrylic paint and mediums, basic color theory, and two-dimensional design concepts. Clay On and Off the Wheel

Drawing the Figure

Beginners and experienced artists welcome in this class exploring dry media like charcoal, graphite, and chalk pastel to draw the human figure. The techniques of gesture, contour, value, rendering, measurement, and composition will be discussed, with explanations on materials and processes, as well as demonstrations on how to draw the figure every step of the way. Students will be working with human anatomy of the full figure including portrait features. Glass Fusing

In this class focused on glass fusing techniques, students will get a chance to make their own glass artwork. With projects ranging from glass jewelry, bowls and plates, glass drawings, and suncatchers, students will get hands on experience working with a challenging material! The heating cycle of kilns, how a kiln works and how to use it, and production techniques will all be a part of this course. Students will make multiple projects based on their interests. Hot Glass for All Levels: Sculptural Forms

Sculptural forms in hot glass will consist of various techniques to make both blown and solid works out of hot glass. Beginners, starting with the bubble or simply a gather of solid glass, will learn ways to develop sculptural forms out of glass, while intermediate/advanced students explore more techniques and more challenging functional forms. Each class will add a different skill to the making process. Students are encouraged to lean into the abstract, and fluid nature of glass. Natural fiber clothing is mandatory, nothing synthetic may be worn (Jeans and cotton T-shirts are recommended). Protective eyewear (safety glasses) and closed toe shoes are mandatory. Introduction to Printmaking: Screenprinting, Relief and Monotype

Learn the basics of three unique printmaking processes: screenprinting, relief and monotype. Fundamental techniques will be covered, including carving and printing linoleum blocks, exposing images to screens, printing and color mixing. Prints will be created both by hand and with a press. We will also explore mixing these different techniques to create wonderfully layered images. Open to all, this is a great course for anyone interested in making beautiful prints by hand. This course is being offered as a process sampler, allowing students an introductory experience to printmaking, and will also support those students who would like to build upon previous printmaking experiences.
