Paddy Chayefsky’s most celebrated original screenplay is a sardonic account of an aging TV news anchor (Peter Finch) whose on-air mental breakdown and subsequent rants are exploited by network executives to boost ratings. Nominated for nine Oscars including Best Picture and Director, it took home four: Actor (Finch), Actress (Faye Dunaway), Supporting Actress (Beatrice Straight), and Original Screenplay. William Holden, Robert Duvall, and Ned Beatty co-star. DCP. 122 min.
