Summer Reading Program

The goal of CIA's Summer Reading Program is to unite the incoming class through a common experience prior to joining the CIA community on campus. The program aims to foster shared conversations based in community-building, social engagement, and collaboration.

The Summer Reading is incorporated into first-year projects in both studio and liberal arts classes. The entire CIA community is invited to join the incoming class in reading and responding to each year's Summer Reading.

Callings: The Purpose and Passion of Work

edited by Dave Isay

We are delighted to announce Callings: The Purpose and Passion of Work, edited by Dave Isay, as CIA’s 2024 Summer Reading selection.

In Callings, StoryCorps founder Dave Isay presents unforgettable stories from people doing what they love. Together, these stories show what it means to live a creative and purpose-driven life.

We look forward to the conversations and artwork that Callings will inspire at CIA.

2024 Mail Art Project

Create your own unique postcard to mail to CIA!

Callings explores the passion that drives a creative and purposeful life.

How would you represent your passion for art and design? What topics and values are important to your work? What’s your “calling” as you begin your time at CIA?

We’ll mail you pre-stamped, pre-addressed postcards, which you’ll use to represent your response to any of the questions above. Be creative. You can use the space however you like—for a comic, a visual representation, or anything else.

Return your postcards by mail to CIA. They will become part of an exhibition that features work by you and other incoming students. We also encourage you to also share your postcard designs at #CIAreading24.
